EAS 1220 - Earthquake!(crosslisted) ENGRI 1220(PBS) Spring. 3 credits. L. Brown. Explores the science of natural hazards, their societal impacts, and means of mitigation. The focus is on earthquakes, volcanoes, and tsunami, but hurricanes, severe weather, climate change, landslides, wildfires, and the threat of extinction from a future impact by an extraterrestrial body are also considered. Outcome 1: Understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global and societal context. Outcome 2: Be able to analyze and interpret raw (e.g. seismograms) and compiled (e.g. seismicity maps) datasets in the context of their role in hazard assessment. |
