BME 3010 - Molecular Principles of Biomedical Engineering

Prerequisite: at least one course from        . Instructors’ permission will be required for students who do not meet this requirement.    Lec and lab.

Course description: Lecture–will cover existing and emerging technologies and instrumentation critical to molecular - level analysis in biomedical engineering. These will inlcude DNA recombinant technology, biological information flow, fundamentals of protein biochemistry and biophysics, thermodynamics principles of biomolecular interactions, nanotechnology for diagnosis and therapy applications, gene therapy strategy, and working principles of mass spec, X-ray, NMR with an emphasis on engineering challenges in these areas.

 

Lab–consisting of three modules of DNA isolation and sequencing, surface plasmon resonance technique, and design of microfluidic systems.
