MAE 4780 - Feedback Control Systems

(crosslisted)
(also CHEME 4720 , ECE 4720 )
Fall. 4 credits.

Prerequisite: CHEME 3720  or MAE 3260  or permission of instructor. Co-meets with MAE 5780 . Comeets with MAE 5780 .

Staff.

Analysis techniques, performance specifications, and analog-feedback-compensation methods for single-input, single-output, linear, time-invariant systems. Laplace transforms and transfer functions are the principal mathematical tools. Design techniques include root-locus and frequency response methods. Includes laboratory that examines modeling and control of representative dynamic processes.

Outcome 1: Students will be able to obtain the linearization of a non-linear system about an operating point.

Outcome 2: Construct a transfer function representation of a linear dynamical system.

Outcome 3: Manipulate block diagrams and transfer functions.

Outcome 4: Understand the relationship between a linear system and its frequency response, and know how to construct a Bode plot.

Outcome 5: Know how to design a Proportional, Integral, Derivate (PID) action controller.
