NS 3060 - [Nutritional Problems of Developing Nations]

Prerequisite: NS 1150 . Offered alternate years. Next offered 2013-2014.

Overview of the most important nutrition problems facing developing countries today and an in-depth understanding of the nutrition problems of one country, chosen as a case study for the course. Course uses the health/care/food framework to analyze the causes of these nutrition problems. Instruction is through lectures and readings. Evaluation is through individual assignments, a group project, and exams.

Outcome 1: Know some basic facts about world geography, demographics, health status and poverty.

Outcome 2: Know the major forms of malnutrition globally and their approximate distribution geographically, and across the life span.

Outcome 3: Understand the connections between malnutrition and infectious diseases.

Outcome 4: Analyze a major nutrition problem in the context of a specific country or region.
