This seminar focuses on women’s biography and the ways in which writings on/about women have impacted critical historical thinking. The course is arranged historically and thematically, covering the 19th and 20th centuries. In terms of writings by/about women, we will engage such issues as: race, class, politics, sentimentality, literary license, stereotypes, and public versus private. A research paper at the end of the course is required.
