BIOEE 4900 - Topics in Marine Biology


Spring. 2 credits. (May be repeated for credit)

Permission of instructor required. Primarily for undergraduate students. Limited to 15 students.

Staff.

Seminar courses on selected topics in marine biology; may include laboratory or field trips.

Outcome 1: Students will gain a perspective on a range of marine science-related topics from reading the primary literature.

Outcome 2: Students will be able to apply these new perspectives to contemporary marine environmental problems.

Outcome 3: Each students develop an in depth comprehension of one currently relevant topic in marine science based on evaluation of one or two primary papers and ancillary materials.

Outcome 4: Students will be able to use these basic conceptual and analytical tools to evaluate other complex marine subjects.

Outcome 5: Students will develop their analytical, synthetic and evaluating skills by writing a paper on a specific marine topic from the primary literature.

Outcome 6: Students will deliver and discuss knowledgeably about a specific marine topic from the primary literature.
