How are social and political life shaped by the routines and material interactions of the everyday? And how has the archaeology of southwest Asia contributed to our understanding of the relationship between daily practice and social order? This course combines readings in social theory and archaeology to explore such themes as the materiality of practice, human and object agency, difference and inequality, embodiment, and the making of place. Southwest Asia, from Egypt to the Caucasus, provides the core zone of empirical inquiry within a comparative examination into the archaeology of the everyday.
