ANTHR 3412 - Anthropology of Money and Finance

This course introduces anthropological theories of exchange through a variety of ethnographic studies of money and finance. Topics of discussion include “primitive money,” the uses of money in religious and ritual practices, social and cultural meanings of numbers, alternative currency systems and the role of economic theories and legal fictions in financial markets.
