DEA 2800 - Intro to Design Thinking, Strategy & Methods


Summer. 4 credits.

How can design contribute to an organization’s success in the 21st century? This course exposes students to the enormous variety of ways that design functions in business contexts and will cover design management, qualitative research methods, design process and implementation. We will explore strategic design applications including innovation, branding, identity, user experience, scenario planning and workplace strategy. The course will also include guest speakers and field trips to expose students to the range of design thinking in practice.

Outcome 1: Develop a clear understanding of the different roles and disciplines involved in design, business and management.

Outcome 2: Develop research and analysis skills to complement the iterative process, including prototyping and evaluation.

Outcome 3: Organize and function successfully within project teams, and learn to collaboratively solve problems within them.
