This course examines the history of immigration in the United States with an eye toward contemporary politics. Examining immigration policy and immigrant experiences since the colonial era, the course will include primary and secondary readings, short pieces and book-length fiction and non-fiction. Students will create a “research memo” on the historical context of a contemporary immigration issue.
