ASIAN 6651 - Indian Religious Worlds

Fall. 4 credits.

Co-meets with ASIAN 3351 /RELST 3351 .

D. Gold.

A study of religious traditions as lived today in the Indian subcontinent. Alongside some underlying similarities, attention is paid to differences in piety and practice within alternative environments: urban and rural, male and female, more and less orthodox. In addition to several Hindu traditions, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, and Muslim traditions may also be treated. Readings include ethnographies and perhaps a novel. (RL)
