F. Gumbretiere, G. Leshed.

Gives students insight into the design of computer interfaces and software from the user’s point of view. Students come to understand how hardware and software design influence the interaction between people and computers. Using assigned readings, demonstrations, and projects, students examine issues and trade-offs in interaction design and invent and evaluate alternative solutions.

Outcome 1: Understand the user-centered design cycle and human-computer interaction design concepts.

Outcome 2: Build practical skills required to apply the user-centered design process in technology design through class activities and project activities.

Outcome 3: Design a user interface in a semester-long team project, including interim milestones that walk the students through the specific stages of the design process.

Outcome 4: Present interim and final deliverables of the project through writing, speech, and visual presentations.
