This course provides an introduction to programming through the manipulation of images, text, and other media. Through topics such as picture manipulation, image creation, and visualizing web data, students develop algorithmic thinking and problem-solving skills and understanding of data structures and object-oriented programming. Course meetings integrate lectures and interactive lab exercises; bring a laptop if you have one. This course is designed for students with little to no technical background.

Outcome 1: Students will be able to write code that accesses, generates, manipulates, copies, and transforms images and text using mathematical and string operations.

Outcome 2: Students will be able to code using the following constructs: variables, arrays, loops, comparison, conditionals, and functions.

Outcome 3: Students will be able to debug and test code.

Outcome 4: Students will be able to describe the algorithm which is embodied in a piece of code and to create new code which follows a given algorithm.

Outcome 5: Students will be able to structure their code using object-oriented principles.
