CS 4813 - Quantum Computing

Spring. 3 credits. Student option grading (no audit).

Forbidden Overlap: due to an overlap in content, students will receive credit for only one course in the following group: CS 4813, AEP 4812 AEP 7681 , PHYS 4481 PHYS 7681 .
Prerequisite: familiarity with basic linear algebra (e.g. MATH 2210 / 2310 / 2940 ), discrete math (e.g. 2800 / 2802 ) and probability (e.g. ENGRD 2700 /MATH 4710 ).

N. Spooner.

Quantum computing is an interdisciplinary field that lies at the intersection of computer science, mathematics, and physics. This computational paradigm relies on principles of quantum mechanics, such as superposition and entanglement, to obtain powerful algorithms. This course aims to provide a self-contained, comprehensive introduction to quantum computing, focusing on the design and analysis of quantum algorithms, as well as covering topics in quantum information and quantum cryptography.

Outcome 1: Demonstrate understanding of basic principles of quantum information, such as superposition and entanglement.

Outcome 2: Conduct analyses of quantum algorithms.

Outcome 3: Demonstrate understanding of important quantum computing techniques, such as error-correction and fault tolerance.
