Architecture, Art, & Planning New York City

AAP NYC

The College of Architecture, Art, and Planning’s seven year old New York City program, AAP NYC, offers undergraduate architecture and art students as well as graduate architecture students, a unique opportunity to live and study in one of the most culturally vital urban centers in the world for one semester. Additionally, undergraduate students gain valuable professional experience through two-day per week placements at large and small design firms, artist studios, museums, galleries, auction houses, and innovative public, private, and non-profit organizations throughout the city.

Located on 17th Street near Union Square, in the vibrant Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, AAP NYC’s loft provides expansive studio and seminar space for short-term and semester-long use by the entire College. The location is an ideal base for exposure to the contemporary practices of art and architecture, urban and social policy, museum collections and exhibitions, and a wealth of architectural and art history.

AAP NYC offers a full roster of courses enriched by New York City’s unique artistic, historical, and cultural resources and by AAP’s extensive alumni network of world-class metropolitan professionals, who frequently teach and serve as guest critics and mentors. The programming expands opportunities for AAP’s undergraduates, allowing them to now take advantage of study in two world capitals — New York City and Rome — while easily meeting graduation requirements.

Semester-long programs are currently offered to fourth and fifth year architecture students, graduate architecture students, and undergraduate art students. City and Regional Planning students participate in intensive NYC-based workshops.

Whether for special events or an entire semester, the New York center exponentially enlarges AAP’s urban and global reach and provides a vital bridge between campus and professional life.
