The Center for Applied Mathematics administers a broad-based interdepartmental graduate program that provides opportunities for study and research over a wide range of the mathematical sciences. Each student develops a solid foundation in analysis, algebra, and methods of applied mathematics. The remainder of the graduate student’s program is designed by the student and his or her Special Committee. There is no special undergraduate or master’s-level degree program in applied mathematics. Undergraduate and master’s-degree students interested in an application-oriented program in mathematics may select an appropriate program in the Department of Mathematics, the Department of Computer Science, or the College of Engineering.
Graduate students in the center take courses related to their program of study that are offered by various departments. Main areas of research interest of the center’s members include scientific computing and numerical analysis, dynamical systems, signal and image processing, optimization, machine learning, network science, mathematical finance, mathematical biology and stochastic modeling.
