Program Website

Field Description

The Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Applied Economics and Management at Cornell University prepare scholars to conduct rigorous, high‑impact research on economic and managerial issues that shape business, policy, and society. Housed within the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management in the SC Johnson College of Business, the programs offer students the opportunity to work closely with faculty who are internationally recognized for their contributions to applied economics, quantitative methods, sustainability, food and agricultural economics, finance, strategy, and related fields.

The field draws on an interdisciplinary faculty whose research spans microeconomic and macroeconomic theory, empirical and quantitative analysis, behavioral and managerial economics, and policy evaluation. Faculty and students engage in research that addresses complex challenges in markets, organizations, and public policy, often integrating insights from economics, data science, environmental science, and the social sciences.

Students in the applied economics and management field pursue advanced study across a wide range of topics, including environmental, energy, and resource economics, food and agricultural economics, international and development economics, strategy and business economics, and management (MS only). The programs are designed for individuals seeking academic careers at leading research universities or research‑oriented roles in industry, government, and policy institutions.
