BIOPL 3431 - [Laboratory in Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering of Plants]

Spring. 2 credits.

Prerequisite: BIOPL 3430  or permission of instructor. Recommended prerequisite: concurrent enrollment in BIOPL 3430 . Next offered 2014-2015. Limited to 24 students. Lab.

J. Nasrallah.

Companion to BIOPL 3430  with laboratory activities that focus on the practice of plant biotechnology. Students transfer genes to plants by a variety of methods and analyze their expression in the host genome by use of reporter gene assays and by the preparation and analysis of nucleic acids.

Outcome 1: Students will understand the fundamental concepts underlying modern plant molecular biology

Outcome 2: Students will gain hands-on experience in implementing methods typically used in plant molecular biological studies
