ENTOM 4900 - Toxicology of Insecticides

History, metabolism, and mechanism of action of genetically modified, synthetic, and naturally occurring insecticides. Discusses insecticide resistance, resistance management, and new approaches to insect control with genetically modified organisms.

Outcome 1: 1.1 You will understand what is done to conduct a proper bioassay.
1.2 You will be learn how to convert the bioassay data into appropriate toxicological endpoints.

Outcome 2: 2.1 You will learn how insecticides are metabolized.
2.2 You will learn how insecticides interact with their target sites.

Outcome 3: 3.1 You will learn how resistance occurs.
3.2 You will learn the cellular and physiological mechanisms responsible for resistance.
3.3 You will learn what can be done to slow the evolution of insecticide resistance.

Outcome 4: 4.1 You will learn about the basic types of chemical bonds.
4.2 You will learn what effect lipophilicity has on the penetration of insecticides.

Outcome 5: 5.1 You will learn how to distinguish the different types of interactions insecticides can have.
