Prerequisite: FREN 2060 or FREN 2090 or CASE Q+. Conducted in French. FREN 2210 may be taken concurrently with FREN 2190 . Recommended courses after FREN 2210, any 3000 level French course.

What does it mean to read a text? What is particularly “close” about close reading? Or, to say it à la française, exactly what does explication de texte explain? This course is designed to foster conversation about a variety of French and Francophone texts, with the explicit goal of sharpening students’ sensitivity to how specific poems, narratives, dialogues, and dramas produce the effects they do.
