PLBR 4075 - Evolution of Plant Breeding and Genetics


Spring. 2 credits. Letter grades only.

Prerequisite: BIOMG 2800 , PLBR 2250 , or permission from instructor.

Discusses transformative ideas that have advanced the fields of basic and applied plant genetics. Juxtaposes the original discovery and publication with a recent report that speaks to our present understanding of the same phenomenon. Students will have exposure to survey of topics in basic and applied genetics with some emphasis on the development and use of genetic mapping and DNA sequencing. Participation in discussion and two exams determines the grade.

Outcome 1: Examine and discuss historical and current research literature.

Outcome 2: Explain the development of basic and applied genetics.

Outcome 3: Discuss the development of cell biology, biochemistry and physiology as they relate to genetics.
