PLBR 7170 - Quantitative Genetics in Plant Breeding Spring. 3 credits. Letter grades only.
Prerequisite: PLBR 4030 and BTRY 6010 or equivalent. Offered even years.
D. R. Viands.
Discusses quantitative genetics for more effective plant breeding. Topics include population genetics, linkage, components of variance; heritability; theoretical gain from selection; and genotypic and phenotypic correlation coefficients.
Outcome 1: Learn principles and methodologies of quantitative genetics so you are able to:
Analyze and evaluate literature involving quantitative genetic experiments.
Outcome 2: Design and analyze quantitative genetic experiments.
Outcome 3: Statistically analyze phenotypic data of plant traits to take into account genotype x environment interaction.
Outcome 4: Explain how to manage breeding populations to accomplish your breeding objectives.
Outcome 5: Evaluate options for breeding strategies to maximize progress from selection.
