PSYCH 2650 - [Psychology and Law]

Next offered 2014-2015. Introductory courses in social and personality psychology. Each of the following three courses (PSYCH 2650, PSYCH 2750 PSYCH 2800 ) provides an introduction to a major area of study within social and personality psychology. These courses are independent of one another, and none have any prerequisites. Students may take any one of the courses or any combination of them (including all three). Courses may be taken in any order or simultaneously.

Examines the implications of psychological theory and methods for law and the criminal justice system. Concentrates on psychological research on legal topics (e.g., confession, eyewitness testimony, jury decision making, homicide, aggression, the prison system), social issues (e.g., death penalty, affirmative action), and on psychologists as participants in the legal system (e.g., assessing insanity and dangerousness and for expert testimony).
