Fall. 2 credits. Letter grades only.

Prerequisite: VTMED 5510 . Enrollment preference given to: fourth-year veterinary students in equine pathway. Minimum enrollment 5; maximum 18. Live animals used for learning.

The objective of the rotation is to prepare students for general equine practice with emphasis on dentistry, podiatry, deworming, vaccination, and basic veterinary procedures (nasogastric intubation, intravenous catheter placement, etc). These skills prepare students to respond on equine-related calls on their first day of work with special emphasis on dentistry and podiatry.  The Cornell horse population is used to teach these practical skills. The emphasis of this elective is hands-on with discussion, laboratories, rounds, lectures, and field trips.
