ANSC 2720 - [Feline Reproduction] Spring. (7 Lectures) 1 credit. Letter grades only.
Prerequisite: suggested ANSC 2400 . Next offered 2014-2015. (Offered alternate odd years) Class will meet for 7 lectures.

Emphasis is on reproduction in the domestic cat; however, aspects particular to reproduction in larger cats will also be presented. Students will learn the physiology of the normal reproductive cycle as well as some common disorders.
Outcome 1: List the major events in the domestication of the common cat.
Outcome 2: Identify the major reproductive organs and describe the contribution or function of each.
Outcome 3: List the major hormones controlling the reproductive process, identify the target cells and list their products.
Outcome 4: List the stages of the estrous cycle and describe the differences between an induced or spontaneous ovulator.
Outcome 5: Describe the advantages and disadvantages of the various methods of determining pregnancy in the female.
Outcome 6: Describe the major events in parturition.
Outcome 7: Explain the consequences of uncontrolled reproduction and list the methods to regulate this process.
Outcome 8: Describe the new technologies applied to feline reproduction.
