PLBR 4092 - Introduction to Scripting and Statistics for Genetics Data Management


Spring. 1 credit.

PLBR 4091 , PLBR 4092, PLBR 4093  may be taken individually or in seqence in one semester.

This course provides instruction and hands-on experience with the statistical package ‘R’ as flexible platform for data analysis, combined with an introduction to perl scripting to manage, mine and organize large datasets.

Outcome 1: Students will be able to perform basic command line and file management tasks in Unix.

Outcome 2: Students will be familiar with regular expressions

Outcome 3: Students will be able to write simple Perl scripts

Outcome 4: Students will be able to parse text files such as BLAST output using Perl scripts

Outcome 5: Students will be able to import data into R

Outcome 6: Students will be able to conduct basic statistical analyses in R, as well as create simple plots
