This course will revisit the promises and limits of the so-called boom of the new Latin American novel as well as challenges against it from the post-boom writers up to this day. Readings include Julio Cortázar, Gabriel García Márquez, Mario Vargas Llosa, Carlos Fuentes, Roberto Bolaño, Luisa Valenzuela, Carmen Boullosa, Laura Esquivel, and others.
