MAE 6140 - [State Variable Modeling]

Fall. 4 credits.

Prerequisite: MAE 6110  or equivalent. Next offered 2014-2015.

Staff.

This course will present an introduction to the state variable modeling framework, which is used for the representation of a broad range of material behaviors and material systems - from strength and strain-hardening in plasticity of metallic polycrystals to fiber orientations and resulting properties in injection-molded composites. Implicit in the state variable method is the representation of processes on small size scales within the constitutive response at the macroscale. Experimental quantification of state variables will also be explored.
