E. Friedman.

How have processes associated with globalization - including increased flows of capital and information, reconfigured patterns of labor migration, privatization and deregulation - affected work in the U.S. and internationally? In taking a sociological approach to the problem, we will see that micro-level changes in work must be contextualized in a broader analysis of economic, political, and cultural shifts which have occurred at the regional, national, and transnational levels. In particular, we will investigate the varying experiences of different social groups, and how they have each fared with the increased precarity and demands for flexibility that are the hallmarks of new work regimes emerging under globalization.
