ALS 1500 - Sustainability Lifestyle Practices


Fall, spring. 2 credits. Letter grades only.

Sustainable living practices will be fostered through readings, discussions, and implementing peer education projects. We cover several sustainability issues, the impact of personal behavior, and social marketing on creating a sustainable living environment. Students engage in experiential learning through developing peer education projects. The semester will focus on themes such as food choice, food systems, waste reduction, and water and energy conservation. Students will acquire strong project implementation and marketing skills by serving as role models to peers on a daily basis and implementing projects over the course of the semester.

Outcome 1: Will be able to explain to others Cornell’s sustainability strategy, what programs exist and how students can become involved.

Outcome 2: Will be able to discuss sustainability issues involved in three major areas.

Outcome 3: Will be able to plan, deliver, and evaluate peer-education programs.

Outcome 4: Will be able to use the principles of social marketing.
