The objective of this course is to provide structured learning for the applied use of basic computer software. The course is targeted at freshmen and sophomore Animal Science students with a dairy focus and will help them develop the basic tools for building a resume (working with Word), finding/presenting information on a dairy specific topic (working with Refworks and Powerpoint), evaluating data (working with Excel), and evaluating cow files (working with Dairy Comp 305 and Feedwatch).

Outcome 1: Students will learn to find information on dairy specific topics using search engines like Pub Med and will evaluate this information for its relevance and usefulness and utilize it to make decisions on hypothetical examples related to the dairy industry.

Outcome 2: Students will also develop professional level skills in Powerpoint, Excel, and Dairy Comp 305 and use this software to critically evaluate different aspects of the dairy industry.

Outcome 3: Students will describe, discuss and explain through writing, and oral presentations the information related to their topic of interest. These projects will be developed at both the individual and group level, thereby developing both independent and group work.
