PMA 3608 - Towards an Ideal Theatre

(LA-AS)
Fall. 3 credits. Letter grades only.

Permission of instructor required.

K. Goetz.

An exploration of the role of “place” in making and experiencing live theatre performance by examining ways in which the architecture of the auditorium and stage interact with the actor and audience to celebrate and enliven community. To accomplish this the course will provide a fertile environment for students with interests in architecture and/or theatre to collaborate together towards a goal of entering the international “The Ideal Theatre” Student Architecture Design Competition, sponsored by the United Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT). Theatre students primarily will serve the role of “the Client” and architectural students primarily will function as “the Designer” to create an  “Ideal Theatre” for a predetermined program and site.
