PHYS 3327 - Advanced Electricity and Magnetism (PBS) Fall. 4 credits.
Forbidden Overlap: Students may not receive credit for both PHYS 3323 and PHYS 3327. Prerequisite: strong performance in PHYS 2217 /PHYS 2218 or permission of instructor. Corequisite: AEP 4210 or appropriate mathematics course(s) that cover complex analysis, vector calculus, Fourier transforms and techniques for studying boundary value problems. Intended for students with exceptional backgrounds in physics/math. PHYS 3323 covers similar material while assuming less prior knowledge.
Y. Grossman.
Covers electro/magnetostatics, vector and scalar potentials, multipole expansion of the potential solutions to Laplace’s Equation and boundary value problems, time-dependent electrodynamics, Maxwell’s Equations, electromagnetic waves, reflection and refraction, wave guides, retarded potential, antennas, relativistic electrodynamics, four vectors, Lorentz, and transformation of fields. At the level of Classical Electromagnetic Radiation by Heald and Marion.
