CHEME 6650 - Energy Engineering (CU-SBY) Spring. 3 credits. Letter grades only.
Prerequisite: a background in economics is not required although the motivation to grasp basic micro/macroeconomics is beneficial. Enrollment preference is in the following order: Graduate students in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) followed by seniors in CBE and graduate students in other departments in the College of Engineering. Others interested may contact the course instructor. Permission of instructor required.

Focuses on carrying out a technical and economic analysis of diverse and complex energy projects (renewable and non-renewable) using a task and team-based approach. Considers and analyzes all possible factors and assumptions which can determine and affect the value of a project both positively and negatively. Includes five practical back to back tasks.
Outcome 1: Bottom-up understanding of and appreciation for all forms of complex energy systems and the technical/commercial factors affecting their performance. (a, b, c, d)
Outcome 2: Capacity to think intuitively about project economics, typical trade-offs and political factors. (e)
Outcome 3: Development of skills associated with working in teams and leading a significant number of teams of other engineers. (f, g)
