Corequisite: INFO 5900 . Satisfies MPS requirement.
Staff.
As part of the Information Science MPS program, students engage in a semester-long team project for a client. The project involves about 10 hours of work per week for the duration of the semester. The list of projects changes from semester to semester, and includes clients as well as Cornell labs, faculty, and researchers.
The list of projects is provided to students at the beginning of the semester, including descriptions of the nature of the project, its goals, what are the required skills to participate, and contact information. Students sign up to the projects and list their skills for working on them. The instructors will match students to projects in the first week of the semester.
Throughout the semester, student teams will be working toward accomplishing the project goals with the guidance of the client together with in-class guidance from IS faculty and researchers. Teams will work through interim deliverables to accomplish milestones in the project. They will also receive guidance on professional skills such as leadership, managing client relationships, team conflict resolution, and effective presentation skills. At the end of the semester teams will hand over the final deliverable to the client, submit a report, and prepare a presentation to the IS community.
