BEE 6940 - Graduate Special Topics in Biological and Environmental Engineering

Fall, Spring. 1-4 credits, variable. Student option grading.

Staff.

The department teaches trial courses under this number. Offerings vary by semester and are advertised by the department. Courses offered under this number will be approved by the department curriculum committee and the same course will not be offered twice under this number. Each 6940 has a unique course ID for enrollment.

Topic for 2021-2022:

Fall (class # 3234). Systems and Synthetic Biology for Sustainable Energy. Barstow, B.

In this class, we’ll pick a new problem in biological engineering and use systems biology to study it over the course the semester. In the past two years (2019 and 2020) we have studied the systems biology of microbial biofuel production from CO2 and electricity (electrofuels) and the microbial conversion of CO2, N2 and electricity to foods (electrofoods). The problem for this year (2021) is not yet set, but might be a design study of the genetic engineering needed to retrofit E. coli for electricity uptake and CO2 fixation.
