BEE 5870 - Sustainable Bioenergy Systems (CU-SBY) Fall. 3 credits. Letter grades only.
Prerequisite: BEE 2220 or equivalent thermodynamics course. Intended for: graduate students. Co-meets with BEE 4870 . Offered in odd-numbered years only.

Offers a systems approach to understanding renewable bioenergy systems (biomass) and their conversion processes, from various aspects of biology, engineering, environmental impacts, economics, and sustainable development. A large part of the course deepens students’ understanding of bioprocessing with undefined mixed cultures of microbes. Graduate students will prepare a 15-minute oral presentation on the subject of their individual review paper, for presentation in class.
