E. Paz-Soldan.
In this course we will explore how Latin American writers and filmmakers have represented, imagined, and intervened in the natural world, from the nation-building political projects of the XIXth century to the battles for the interpretation of the environment and its relationship to local peoples and cultures in the XXth century. We will analyze the current ecological crisis, the emergence of new subgenres such as “climate fiction,” and the development of important theoretical perspectives such as ecocriticism, ecofeminism, and Amerindian perspectivism.
