PUBPOL 5110 - Pharmaceutical Management and Policy

Forbidden Overlap: due to overlap in content, students will not receive credit for both PUBPOL 5110 and PUBPOL 5900 ; (Topic “Key Mgmt Issues-Pharmaceutical & Biotech Industry”).

C. Carey.

This course provides an overview of management and policy issues facing the pharmaceutical industry.  The course begins with the US market, which is the largest and most profitable, and then explores the state of the industry in other high-income countries as well as emerging markets and developing nations. We also explore the actions of the pharmaceutical industry in the COVID-19 pandemic.

Outcome 1: Describe the objectives and behavior of each of the major stakeholders in the pharmaceutical industry.

Outcome 2: Assess the benefits and drawbacks of various policies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the pharmaceutical industry.

Outcome 3: Take advantage of publicly-available data in a self-directed investigation into a prescription drug.
