This course focuses on African American women in the 20th century. The experiences of black women will be examined from a social, practical, communal, and gendered perspective. Topics include the Club Woman’s movement, suffrage, work, family, black and white women and feminism, black women and radicalism, and the feminization of poverty. (HNA)
