HADM 3650 - Persuasive Business Communication for Hospitality Leaders


     
Fall, Spring. 3 credits. Letter grades only (no audit).

Forbidden Overlap: due to an overlap in content, students will receive credit for only one course in the following group: HADM 3650, HADM 3670 HADM 6670 , HADM 7610 REAL 6640 .
Prerequisite: HADM 1150  and HADM 1650 . Enrollment limited to: NSHA juniors or seniors. Satisfies core requirement for NSHA students. NSHA students are strongly encouraged to complete this course in their junior year.

Develops the knowledge and skills that hospitality managers need to face an array of persuasive communication challenges. This course builds on the principles of effective managerial communication (HADM 1650 ) and organizational behavior and interpersonal skills (HADM 1150 ). The course introduces the theory and principles of persuasion and focuses on their application in a range of management and leadership contexts.

Outcome 1: PLO 1.1: Students will identify key issues and appropriately apply discipline principles to analyze a hospitality management solution.

Outcome 2: PLO 1.2: Students will critically evaluate a hospitality management problem and will formulate a solution based on principles from at least two management disciplines.

Outcome 3: PLO 2.1: Students will create professional-quality written business documents.

Outcome 4: PLO 2.2: Students will plan and deliver a professional-quality oral presentation.

Outcome 5: PLO 4.1: Students will describe their personal strengths and development needs related to hospitality management.
