Cornell Plantations is the arboretum, botanic garden, and natural areas of Cornell University—places of exceptional beauty, diversity, and opportunities for learning. Areas managed include over 3,400 acres of natural areas on and off campus including Fall Creek and Cascadilla Gorges, 100 acres in the F. R. Newman Arboretum and the 30 acres of botanical gardens. Credit Courses
Cornell Plantations offers for-credit courses: PLHRT 4800 - Plantations Lecture Series and Independent Studies. PLHRT 4800 is a 1-credit S–U lecture series offered each fall featuring prominent national and international speakers. Independent Studies are available to students wishing to gain hands-on experience working and learning alongside Plantations staff. Internships
Since the 1990s, more than 150 university students have worked side by side with Plantations’ knowledgeable staff, learning and having fun as participants in Cornell Plantations’ summer internship program. Positions in horticulture, natural areas management, education and marketing are available each year, beginning after finals in May. All positions build on classroom learning through hands-on work while encouraging students’ interests in horticulture, outreach and the natural world. Visit the website for details.
