Chemical Engineering, M.Eng.

Offered by the Robert Frederick Smith School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering

Contact: 152 Olin Hall, (607) 255-4550

The Master of Engineering (Chemical) is a 30-credit professional program with a flexible curriculum that allows students to increase the depth of their knowledge in a specialty area, to broaden their knowledge in chemical engineering applications, or to enhance their competitiveness for industrial employment. Students who enroll in the program seek to diversify their skill set towards industry relevant areas that they may not have had time to explore during their undergraduate years. The program offers course flexibility and encourages design projects which work with industry partners that yield time relevant challenges.

Specific requirements include: 12 credits in chemical engineering courses. Courses can be selected in chemical engineering fundamentals, such as fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer and reaction kinetics, and in chemical engineering applications, including biotechnology, microchemical systems, energy, sustainability, drug delivery, polymers, and others. In addition, 3 to 6 credits are required in an individual or group project carried out under the mentorship of a faculty member or in collaboration with an industrial sponsor. The project can be tailored to match a student’s technical interests and career goals.
