The M.Eng. (Aerospace Engineering) degree program offers two options for study, a traditional one-year (two semester) on-campus program and a distance learning (DL) part-time program that can be completed in two to three years. The course of study is for those who wish to develop a higher level of competence in engineering science, current technology, and engineering design. The program is geared for students who wish to work in industry after graduation, entering at a higher and more focused level and industrial professionals that wish to enhance their technical skills and accelerate advancement in the space industry.

The program is designed to be flexible so that candidates may concentrate on a variety or combination of specialty areas. These include celestial mechanics, dynamics and control, spacecraft and space systems engineering, propulsion, and computational fluid dynamics.

The program’s flexibility allows students to build an individualized program of courses. Students are required to complete 30 credits of work at the graduate level (of which at least 28 credits must have letter grades). Each student’s curriculum includes a 4 to 8 credit design project and a minimum of 12 technical credits in aerospace engineering or a closely related field. The remaining credits can consist of additional technical or engineering tool courses and/or professional development courses.

Design projects have an aerospace engineering design or research focus. The projects may arise from individual faculty and student interests or from collaboration with industry. All projects are done under the close supervision of a faculty member or industrial partner.
