Program Website

Program Description

The Community Food Systems (CFS) minor enables undergraduate students across the university to engage with critical contemporary issues relating to food security, food sovereignty, and food justice. In a context of diverse goals and approaches, the CFS minor focuses on students gaining experience with a community food organization to collaboratively understand and develop sustainable community food systems.

Global Development majors may take the CFS minor with approval from the department.

Academic Standards

Grade Requirements

All courses must be taken for a letter grade. Grades of S/U or SX/UX will not be accepted.

Each course must be completed with a grade of C or better to count toward the minor.

Minor Declaration Information

No more than two courses (minimum 6 credits) can count towards the major and minor for all students. Students would need to have a distinct practicum experience that is not being used to fulfill any major or college requirement. The organization should be focused on some dimension of community food systems (e.g. agricultural production, marketing, food security). They can email the CFS Director to clarify if the organization is suitable for placement. The student should obtain email verification from the organization that they are willing to host the student for an 8 week practicum. Once they have secured a practicum placement, they should email this verification to the CFS Director.
