HIST 4392 - Diversity and Civil Disobedience(crosslisted) (also AMST 4392 ) (HA-AS) Fall. 4 credits.

The seminar focuses on specific issues and historical moments in which American citizens of diverse racial and class backgrounds created social movements to challenge socioeconomic inequality, discriminatory governmental policies, societal customs and sometimes law enforcement. Topics covered will include abolitionism; woman’s suffrage and the modern woman’s rights era; the labor movement; the civil rights movement; the Vietnam anti-war movement and revolutionary nationalist movements among various groups such as the Black Panthers, Weather Underground, the Young Lords, etc.
