CHIN 2215 - Mandarin for Cantonese Speakers

Fall. 4 credits. Letter grades only.

Prerequisite: for students who are fluent Cantonese speakers with at least intermediate literacy skills or for students who have completed intermediate Cantonese courses at Cornell or have the equivalent ability as determined through a placement test. Some previous Mandarin exposure helpful. Permission of instructor is required. Limited to 15 students.

Works very intensely on conversational Mandarin with a focus on standard pronunciation and differences in vocabulary and grammar between Cantonese and Mandarin. Ample opportunities will be given to practice Mandarin with accuracy and fluency.
