Builds an interdisciplinary understanding of the conservation and management of protected areas and fragile landscapes around the world. It uses lectures, readings, library assignments, and multimedia information, including a new Internet-based platform linking students to conservation practitioners, to examine the role of local communities in protecting biodiversity and ecosystem services. Stakeholder analyses of case studies from Africa, Latin America, Asia, and the United States explore conservation science and management issues from different geopolitical perspectives.
