ASRC 4511 - Matter of Brevity: Borges in Translation(crosslisted) (also ENGL 4797 ) (LA-AS) Spring. 4 credits.
G. Farred.
After Shakespeare, it has been said many times, there is perhaps no greater author than the Argentine librarian. In this course we will read Borges’ fiction which is renowned for its brevity. Borges, it has been said, never wrote a book more than fifteen pages. His work is, perhaps for this reason, memorable as much for its brevity as its brilliance. Much, of course, is lost in translation, but the greater loss will be a lack of acquaintance with Borges’ writing.
