MUSIC 2101 - Tonal Theory I

Prerequisites: admission by departmental diagnostic exam and concurrent enrollment in MUSIC 2103. Intended for students expecting to major in music and other qualified students.

Detailed study of the foundations of tonal music: melodic principles, scales, counterpoint, diatonic harmony, voice leading, and basic formal structures. Study engages in Western repertoire, and it includes practical exercises as well as analysis.
